Computer-based test (CBT)
Computer-based test (CBT-NMC, UK), the first part of Test of Competence (ToC) which is a computer-based test (CBT) that assesses the theoretical knowledge of the candidates in the field of nursing. This test must be successfully completed before the candidate can proceed with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) application and evaluation process.
This is a multiple choice examination and part II of ToC is a practical examination called objective structured clinical examination (OSCE). While CBT, the part1 of the test is administered across the globe through Pearson VUE, OSCE exam can be completed only once the candidate reaches the United Kingdom. The primary CBT test undertaken by most candidates is the “Adult Nursing test” which covers four main domains as described by the Nursing and Midwifery Council:
- Professional values (PV)
- Communication and interpersonal skills (CIS)
- Nursing practice and decision making (NPD)
- Leadership management and team working (LMT)
