National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)

National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) is the licensing exam required for practice as a registered nurse in the United States. It’s an objective type exam designed to evaluate the student learning in various domains of learning with emphasize on the cognitive part.

Unlike other nursing exams, this is a computer adaptive test (CAT) where the students can get different number of questions ranging from minimum 75 to maximum 265 questions. The exam is capable of measuring the student performance in varying levels of learning based on the bloom’s taxonomy. It is important to understand that it is not just a test of your knowledge, rather it takes the candidate through higher levels of learning before the computer will determine if the candidate is eligible enough to practice nursing safely in the United States. The eligibility to sit for NCLEX-RN/LPN exam is determined through a thorough evaluation of the student’s educational background which is undertaken by Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS).
